Frequently asked questions

Yes. You must have a stable income and make at least 2.5x the rent for the property you’re applying for unless you have a voucher that subsidizes your rent. Accepted income sources include:

  1. Job (1 months’ worth of paystubs required)
  2. SSI / SSDI
  3. Housing vouchers (Section 8, etc.)
  4. RRH program or other rental subsidies
  5. 6 Bank Statements showing 2.5x the rent (ideal for self-employed)
  6. Other sources of income that are verifiable
We don’t set this requirement to gatekeep — we do it to make sure you’re truly ready to take this step.

Homes in the Second Chance Housing Program are apartments, townhomes, or single-family homes leased directly from landlords — just like any traditional rental. You’ll have your own lease and full tenant rights. The difference? You’ll also be paired with a Resident Support Coach to help you stay stable and successful.

Your coach is there to help you win, not to supervise you. They’ll check in regularly (monthly or bi-weekly) to help with:

  1. Rent budgeting and reminders/ check-ins
  2. Life skills and job prep
  3. Goal setting + monthly progress
  4. Conflict mediation with landlords
  5. Long-term housing planning
This is about accountability, growth, and being supported as you move forward.

Yes — that’s exactly who we’re here for. We understand the barriers that come from eviction, incarceration, late payments, low-income, or credit history! However, we also require that:

  1. You do not owe more than $2,500 in unpaid rent to previous landlords
  2. You are already on a payment plan if you owe rent to previous landlords
Each situation is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Your willingness to work toward resolution matters.

No — this is not a shelter or group home. You will have a private lease with your landlord. Just follow the lease like any tenant would. We’re here to help you stay housed — not micromanage you.

You’ll be matched with a Resident Support Coach who:

  1. Checks in with you monthly or bi-weekly
  2. Helps manage rent, budgeting, and landlord relationships
  3. Tracks progress toward life goals (like employment or saving)
  4. Connects you with workshops, job resources, or therapy referrals
  5. Helps you create an exit plan for your next chapter (like long-term housing or homeownership)
Support is consistent, respectful, and confidential.
